Team 229 – Division By Zero

Every year, students from Massena and Salmon River Central School in Massena and Salmon River New York gather in the depths of the Technology wing, and start planning for a new game. Robotics is an extracurricular program at the school, in which students design and build a robot from the ground up to perform a specific task. This task is part of the game, which is distributed every year by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). This game is played by hundreds of robotics teams from around the world, and is the training ground for the engineers of the future.

The games in which Division By Zero (team number 229) participates are not the typical robot games that you see on TV, where robots are designed to smash each other to bits. These games are developed in a way where both teams are trying to perform a specific task, while slowing the other team’s progress. These fights are always fair, and robots do not directly attack each other.

FIRST is an international organization that was founded by (Dean Kamen) in hopes that it would inspire students to pursue a field in engineering. The ultimate goal is “to transform culture, making science, math, engineering, and technology as cool for kids as sports are today.”

Since our formation in the 1999 season, we have won many awards and achieved many accomplishments, solidifying our position as a well-known team in the FIRST community.

Of course, none of this could be possible without our generous sponsors, our dedicated mentors, and our inspiring teachers at Massena and Salmon River Central Schools. Thanks to everyone who has dedicated countless hours to prepare us for the future!

Girl Scout Robotics Outreach Activity

Tomorrow afternoon, Sunday November 8th, Clarkson is going to be hosting a special robotics outreach activity involving a local Girl Scout troop!

The goal will be to create a ‘chain’ of cookie-moving robots. This activity will allow the Girl Scouts to exercise lego building skills, be introduced to programming in RoboLab, and most importantly, teamwork.

Members from Clarkson’s Robotics Living Learning Community will be helping the groups with their robots.
