Team 229’s mentors are made up of Clarkson University students ranging in all years and all majors. For the freshmen and sophomores, Clarkson has presented a wonderful opportunity in the first FIRST Living Learning Community. It’s themed housing where all the FIRST mentors live together on one floor. In the common area, we have all the equipment we need for our Remote Mentoring program to work with FLL and FTC teams, as well as a SmartBoard so that the students can work together and interactively on their homework or any projects they may choose to take on (It’s also great for floor movie nights…). All the residents have assigned hours where they monitor the Remote Mentoring station and assist FLL and FTC teams in the area with any questions they might have. It creates a wonderful environment of teamwork and a learning-oriented atmosphere. The upperclassmen have designated ‘office hours’ on our floor where they can help us with homework or robotics projects, or just get a chance to talk with the younger students about their experience at Clarkson. Ultimately, our close-knit mentors make for a better overall team dynamic, and it benefits the students in every FIRST team we serve.

Team 229's FIRST LLC members come from a variety of backgrounds including other FIRST teams throughout the US. Each member has an opportunity to become an officer on the floor and acquire great skills that are valuable towards their careers and resumes.
